Tomorrow at this time the girls will be hours into their first day of seventh and fourth grade. I'm sad Summer went by so fast but in just the last few days I've become excited for what is coming up in the next few months. We were so busy this Summer with so much fun packed in that slowing down a little (if that's even possible with school schedules, soccer and whole lot of birthdays coming up) seems like a nice break.
As you know we end our Summer every year with our 'End of Summer Picnic'. We packed our lunches and made a quick stop along the way to pick up a few sweet treats before heading to the old school house playground to enjoy our food.
We were having a great time until Kayla climbed up this rock and then would and could not get down because it was extremely hot to touch. Climbing up she was burning her hands which I told her then it was not a good idea.
Needless to say this was not a good End of Summer picnic and all of if quickly went down hill after these few pictures of her.
We decided it was best to cut the picnic short and head back home. Brooklyn was still her happy self and wanted to check out the small library.
She was excited to find one of her old favorites! She loved reading the Henry and Mudge series years ago and we spent so much of Summer checking out new Henry and Mudge books back in the day. We decided she had to have it and promised to come back and drop off a few books she didn't want anymore.
On the way back home we drove slowly by each honor farm stand to see if there was anything delicious to buy. We stopped for some plums and then called it a day.
Our picnic definitely did not go the way I had planned but after about eight years of this tradition and only one bad picnic I think we'll be okay. I contemplated just posting the pictures and not sharing we left early because of a bad attitude but that isn't our real life and although these girls always look so happy and like they are having a great time we still have attitudes and arguments here and there. I'm sure there will be even more now that they are getting older but that is life. The good thing is there is always next Summer!

I love this shannon! Reading blogs and looking at pictures on Instagram/Facebook often make me feel bad about several of our outings that quickly go south because of bad attitudes or something else.
How did Kayla get down from the rock?
We have a free book stand around the corner from us. They are so fun to visit.
So true -- things can change because of an attitude quickly for my girls too. Pictures always look like things are 'perfect' and for that part of blogging I'm always happy because it helps me remember the good. Sorry your tradition wasn't everything it usually is. The girls will remember the sunshine and the sandwiches and the memory. Happy back to school for your girls!
