Ice Skating

The girls have always wanted to try ice skating and the winery that we belong to has an ice skating rink every Winter for families to enjoy.  Last year our schedule was too busy to get out there but this year we had nothing so we bought tickets and decided we would make a day out of it last Saturday.

It was actually cold this day and drizzly out.   Our first Wintery day in December.

Starting off slow, walking around the rink.

After their first attempt around the rink we gave them both walkers to help the process out a bit.

They were both having a great time and said it was fun!

After about thirty minutes they were both doing pretty good so I told them they should try without the walker.  Kayla got rid of hers first and went around a few times looking extremely awkward and keeping Chris and I laughing from the side.

Then Brooklyn attempted to try her first lap without the walker and half way around she fell wrong and was hurt.  Chris ran over to the side and she said she couldn't move her arm and she was in a lot of pain.   As soon as I saw her hand I knew something was broken.   I immediately gave her ibuprofen and the staff came over with ice and brought the girls hot chocolates.   That definitely helped calm her down a bit.  We drove home and Kayla and I got dropped off while Chris and Brooklyn headed to Urgent Care.  There was nobody waiting at our Urgent Care so she was in and out within an hour.   Sure enough she had broken her wrist but thankfully it was a common break that would heal easy.

She came home laughing and joking around, back to her usual self.

Of course she got ice cream that evening!

Monday afternoon she was at the doctors getting her cast on.  She will have it on for four weeks and then they'll take it off, x-ray her and see where to go from there.  If there was any time to break a bone I guess it is now considering she's home everyday and not in any sports.

She was excited to pick out the color of her cast and chose red for Christmas.

She has been such a strong girl through this whole process.  I have been very proud of her and thankful that it was not a serious break and not her writing hand.  She is also not in any pain which is great and now she has a story tell of the first time she tried ice skating she broke her wrist.
