Operation Christmas Child

For Christmas this year we explained to the girls that they will not be receiving as many gifts from us or Santa as they are used to.
We told them they would probably each be getting one big gift and just a few smaller gifts they can share.
We are trying to instill the true meaning of Christmas and explain to them that family is much more important than how many toys they get under the tree.
For the past few years I've seen posts online for Operation Christmas Child but I have always caught it too late.
Luckily this morning I saw it mentioned and found out that this week is the last week to donate your boxes.
So right after we picked up Kayla from school we headed straight to Walmart.
I explained to them both what we were doing and they were both excited to help and pick out some fun items for another little kid around their age.
You can choose the age as well as if you would like to give to a girl or boy.
We chose girls since I figured it would be easier for them to pick items for.

Kayla made a little note for each box

While Brooklyn filled up her box

Some of the items we included were art supplies, slippers, toothpaste & toothbrush, hair goodies, Brooklyn picked out a little baby doll and Kayla gave coloring books, some candy and lots of other little necessities.
There is a list of ideas on the website that I hope you will all take a look at and maybe go get some items together to give.

(she did not want to let that little toy go)

You have until the 19th of November and there are plenty of places to drop off your boxes around the country.
I ended up spending about $30.00 a box which is nothing considering this is ALL they will probably receive for Christmas.

I'm so glad you posted that link. I had heard about this over the weekend and was hoping we might be able to fit it in or something like that. I think it's an excellent idea to have the kids involved in things like that.

Such a beautiful thing to do and a great lesson for your children. And, it feels good to give doesn't it!

I love that you are teaching your girlies the true meaning of Christmas and they certainly look like they enjoyed doing it!

This is great Shannon! We have done this in the past. This year we are adopting a local family from a domestic abuse center. Our kids are excited to be able to meet the kiddos too :)
Have a great weekend!
