The Beach in January

Only in California can you spend a perfect day at the beach in the middle of January!

We had nothing to do this past Saturday and I did not want to let a weekend go by when I knew we would be having some wonderful warm weather.  I mentioned to hubby a trip to Balboa Island would be a fun Saturday and he agreed.  So Saturday after we ate lunch we all headed down to Newport to stop and shop a bit at the mall and then to Balboa.  The weather was amazing, 81 degrees and nothing but sunshine.  Once we got onto the island we made a stop at our favorite candy store to fill up a bag with some taffy to snack on while we ventured around the island.  The girls ran around in the sand while we enjoyed our walk and the beautiful view.  When we came back to our starting point we didn't want to leave but it was getting close to dinner time and we wanted to make our reservation at Joe's Crab Shack where we sat and watched the sunset.  Both of the girls ordered the captains special and enjoyed fish sticks along with popcorn shrimp.  I was so happy they didn't order the usual pizza or grilled cheese!  We ended our evening with the best dessert ever, their Campfire Smores.  So good, a must if you ever eat there!   

It was definitely a great way to spend a Saturday!
