October Recap Part 1

October kicked off with an early surprise from Brooklyn's school for reaching half a million words read already.   The principal and some of the staff came by to drop off some prizes for her to enjoy.   I thought it was awesome but she was so embarrassed.  She was mad I answered the door, lol.  #tweens

I try and give the girls something fun to get them in the Halloween spirit every year.   This year I got them some cozy Halloween pajama pants to wear since they are home everyday all day.

They loved them and have been wearing them all the time.

Oliver is always entertaining us with his strange cat positions.

June in one of her favorite day sleeping spots.

October calls for all of the fun and scary Halloween movies!   We started out the month watching, It.  Kayla had been begging to watch the new version so we gave in and boy was it good!   We loved it, well all of us except Brooklyn!

She only lasted about thirty minutes before she decided it was way too scary for her.   She ended up watching fun cartoons instead and she may or may not have slept in Kayla's room half the night and our room the other.

My dads health has not been so great the past 3 months so the girls had not seen him in awhile.   He was feeling up to having visitors one weekend and we jumped at getting the girls over to spend some time with their grandparents.

We also came back with a new furniture piece during our visit.  This beautiful secretary belonged to my grandfathers parents and I've always loved it.   My grandmother was moved into assisted living and there was no room for it so home it came with me.   I'm not sure if it will stay here but this is where it's at for now and I love it.

Here it is styled,

Brooklyn made these cute black cats in class and I loved their expressions.

We have been going to the library every other week and now Brooklyn joins us as well.

They had put together some fun bundles of books for Halloween and Kayla grabbed the horror bundle.  She read all 5 of those books in two weeks and loved them.

There is a nearby craft house and they have live music on the weekends.   We left the girls for two hours on a Friday night and stopped by to have a few beers and eat some yummy food.  It was a fun little outing.

When we came home this is what our girls looked like.  Anyone else hate video games??  They got to play since we were gone so they were super excited and they enjoyed the fact that on some of their games they can meet up with their friends and they all play together.

The next morning it was back to good ole imaginary play.

Cooler evenings were much appreciated this month so we could spend some time in the backyard.

I made a delicious chocolate peanut butter bundt cake to take to our friends house and  I had to add some fun Halloween sprinkles

These three have known each other for ten years and the girls pretty much think of him as their brother.

Brooklyn always comes out from her room when she has free time during class to read in the family room and of course to eat a snack.

All prettied up for school pictures.   We drove up, she got out, took her picture and was back in the car in 5 minutes.

We went to Kohl's after and she found a great gift idea for herself.

He always said he wasn't much of an animal person but then I see things like this.

Last year on Halloween Kayla had a cross country race and after her race she wanted to leave because it was windy and freezing so we went and got burgers from Wendy's and then came home and watched Nightmare on Elm Street just the two of us.   She said that was one of her favorite memories and so we decided that we needed to do it every year.

This year we picked up In N Out and Chris and Brooklyn ate theirs while I waited for Kayla to get done with school.   As soon as she was done for the day we set up in the family room and just Kayla and I watched Nightmare on Elm Street 2.   We decided every year we will watch the next one until we are done with the series.   It was fun and we are both excited that we have something to look forward to for just the two of us to do every October.

Just another cat picture because I love them.

Yes, we stop for all cats!  We met another black and white cat while out and about.

Okay, that's enough for today.  I'll be back with more of October soon!
