Key West ~ Day 1

We kicked off this Summer with a trip to Key West, Florida.  We flew in directly to Key West which was the smallest airport we have ever been to.  It was close to midnight when we landed so there was no exploring until the next day.

That next morning Kayla, Chris and I were awake at a normal time while we had to wake up Brooklyn which quickly became the daily theme on our vacation.

Everyone got dressed which meant swimsuits and cover ups because our first day included some beach time.

We were ready to do some exploring but first some pictures around our hotel because it was beyond adorable!

The hotel provided a shuttle that took us from New Town to Old Town and once we were in Old Town we could basically walk wherever so that is just what we did.  We enjoyed our walk to breakfast which included seeing a lot of the cute houses on the island.

While we waited for a table for breakfast we took a look at a few cute shops.  This one was by far the cutest shop I saw on the island.

Blue Heaven did not disappoint, the food was delicious and the restaurant was fun.

Afterwards we headed onto the beach.  Our walk was long but manageable.

Holding hands = Extremely happy girls

We finally made it!

Fort Zachery State Park
The water was completely clear and the temperature was like bathwater!  This beach was perfect and we enjoyed being in that water almost the entire time.  The girls and Chris did a little snorkeling but there wasn't much to see so I was fine not joining!

We found a snack bar and were excited to order two beers to enjoy.

After an entire day of travel the day prior this day was just what we needed!

After a few hours of relaxing we decided to make the walk back but first we stopped in to look at the historical site of Fort Taylor.  On our walk we saw many iguanas which I was not aware would be roaming freely around Key West.

It was a little strange and the one above seemed to be the most common here at Fort Taylor but the iguana below was a little bit freakier and I was happy to only see this one the entire time on the island.

We walked around the fort for a little bit but Brooklyn and I both had gotten blisters on our feet from our flip flops and the humidity was insane so while Kayla and Chris toured more of the fort we relaxed on a bench and tried not to melt.

On our long walk back to the shuttle we once again enjoyed seeing different parts of the island.  Roosters and chickens are another thing you will see all over the island. They were absolutely everywhere!

When we got back to the hotel we immediately went to the pool.  We ended our first day poolside with drinks and dinner and it could not have been more perfect.  Already we knew this was going to be one very relaxing family vacation!
