Thanksgiving break started a week early for Kayla. She had knee surgery for a torn ligament from a soccer injury a few years back so she took the week off before to help recover. Her surgery was on a Monday morning and I was beyond thankful to be able to be right next to her up until the surgery. The nurses and staff were the kindest and most caring. I was nervous and worried and still am, hoping it heals properly and everything is good in the long run but knowing she was in good care and I was as well was so reassuring.
It was a three hour surgery and when she woke up she was extremely groggy and tired. She couldn't wait to get home to take a nap and I was happy to get her home. She immediately went to sleep and then when she woke up Brooklyn sat next to her while she played on her Nintendo.
The next day she was all set up in the family room playing video games again and enjoying having the t.v. all to herself while Brooklyn was at school.
I told her she could pick out whatever she wanted for dinner all week long and I would make it.
Here was her list of dinners,
Buffalo Chicken Pasta
Enchiladas
Meatball Sandwiches
Creamy Tuscan Salmon & Mashed Potatoes
Potato Burrata Pizza
Brooklyn came home with a chocolate milk for Kayla she grabbed from the school cafeteria.
Tuesday night the pain had settled in and Kayla had a rough night. When we put her to bed she was in tears and wanted me to stay with her so I laid with her for about an hour and then she had to use the restroom. I asked her if she wanted to read instead but she declined so I told her we should go back out to the family room and watch a movie together. I knew she needed to get her mind off of the pain and minutes in to watching the movie Luca she was laughing and all was better. We were all set up to sleep out on the couches and she was out in thirty minutes into the movie. The rest of the night was fine but I was exhausted all day Wednesday because I did not sleep.
A moscow mule for me Wednesday night and praying the rest of the nights went smoothly, which they did! By the weekend Kayla was doing a lot better. She stopped taking the pain killers a day early because she didn't like the way they made her feel and instead started taking tylenol instead.
She also had her bestie back home for the weekend and the next week to keep her entertained. Brooklyn made her and herself a turkey made out of applesauce that she froze for them to both enjoy later together.
While I was very busy taking care of our patient the piles of Christmas items just kept piling up by the front door. #showmeitsalmostChristmastime
Lots of cooking the past two weeks because nowhere to be.
Thanksgiving break is usually when we like to take a camping trip but obviously we couldn't do that this year. I was a little sad but it has also been so nice being home everyday!
Brooklyn spent some time painting and I laughed when I saw her face. I asked her how she got paint all over her face and she said, 'oh I had an itch on my eye'
so talented!
I actually got the t.v. and found one of my favorites, Annie.
Kayla was feeling better and more like herself so she had a friend over. She was so happy to have her over after a week of being at home away from all of her friends.
My father in law also came over one evening to see the patient and to drop off a card and treat for her. He stayed for dinner and it was nice to catch up.
I've been trying to stock up on things for the girls to do at home together since Kayla will be on crutches for quite awhile. I purchased the gingerbread turkeys from Trader Joes so they could decorate them.
Their beautiful masterpieces!
It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without Charlie Brown!
Friday after Thanksgiving the Christmas decor came out!
Obviously the disaster of the house worked out perfect for this guy!
After all day decorating inside and Chris decorating the outside we all showered, picked up dinner and cuddled on the couch to watch a new Christmas movie together.
Saturday the girls decorated their Christmas trees in their rooms.
Kayla all cozy and reading of course!
Cheers to my most favorite time of the year!
Sunday morning I was the first up and enjoyed my cup of coffee in our quiet house.
Chris and I went on a long walk, Brooklyn and him went to the park after to play soccer and then everyone spent the rest of the day lounging, reading, playing games and watching movies.
The last two weeks have been nice having us all together. Kayla is doing great and hasn't needed pain medication since Thursday. Tomorrow she is back to school for the day and then she'll go to the doctor Tuesday and we'll go from there.

I'm glad Kayla's surgery went well and she's off pain meds! What a blessing. Your cat is so cute, finding places to hide among all the decor. I'm glad you've had a wonderful week at home together, it looks so cozy!
