One More Day With Our Feet in the Sand

Last Saturday we had a free day so we decided to head down to the beach for the day.   We chose a favorite spot that we used to vacation at often when the girls were both little.  We had not been to Balboa Island for atleast two years so I was excited to be going.

We packed a picnic lunch to enjoy on the beach and since it took two hours to get there because of traffic we ate as soon as we arrived.  Kayla chose to walk up and down the beach as she enjoyed her sandwich

while Brooklyn enjoyed tons of watermelon on the beach blanket.

Then it was off to play, Kayla took turns playing with daddy and I

While Brooklyn got busy playing in the sand.

We were having a great great time relaxing until this poor girl who was just playing in the sand minding her own business when a bee stung her on the foot.   Poor thing got stung by a stingray, slammed the truck door shut on her finger and then gets stung by a bee all in the last month.  She was fine after about ten minutes of screaming and crying and then was back to playing again.  I'm hoping she's done getting hurt or stung from here on out!

Not a bad spot to spend our Saturday although I would love to have that house so I could spend all of my Saturdays here!!

When it got close to dinnertime we packed up all of the beach gear and put it in the car so we could walk through the town and check out all of the cute shops.  Kayla was holding my hand so I asked hubby to take a picture because the week back at school has been rough with her.   I already miss Summer Kayla because she is soooooo moody and tired now that school has started again.   I was just so happy she was enjoying her day and back to her happy self on Saturday!!!

She really wanted to ride the horse but we didn't have any quarters so pictures would have to do.

Checking out the candy store and showing Brooklyn all of her favorite taffy flavors.

For dinner we ate at a delicious Italian restaurant and I enjoyed my favorite, lobster ravioli.

Brooklyn ordered Gnocchi in Alfredo sauce

and Kayla ordered a pizza.
Half way through the meal Brooklyn said she didn't really like hers, Kayla immediately said she would eat it and traded her pizza for the gnocchi so everything worked out.

After we ate we walked off our full bellies with a  walk around the island.  I love checking out all of the gorgeous homes as we stroll the island.

We made a quick stop so the girls could pose infront of the dinosaur, back when Kayla was little she was terrified of dinosaurs and we could barely get her to walk past the thing without going into a panic now she obviously isn't afraid at all.

We couldn't leave the island without the girls getting a balboa bar of course.  How cute are they waiting together for their ice creams?

I'm so glad we decided to spend the day on Balboa Island, it was the perfect way to relax after going back to school.

Hi Shannon,
So sorry that Kayla's back to school has been rough. That's so hard on her and really hard on mama! Hoping that whatever it is turns a corner for her soon and the school year quickly become lovely for her. I love all of these pictures. To live where you live is absolutely gorgeous. And yes, I'd like that house right there too on the water to spend weekends and summers! Sometimes when we're somewhere fun I like to imagine how wonderful it would be to own a home wherever we are. So glad your girls are soaking up the last days of summer weather.
