Our second day in San Francisco started bright and early! We knew Fleet Week on a Saturday was going to make it extremely busy getting around Fisherman's Wharf and we were told we should get in line for the cable cars right at 8am to make it to our Alcatraz tour at 10:30. We grabbed a quick breakfast of donuts and milk, coffee for us.
They were super happy with their breakfast.
After we walked over to the cable cars and found no line which was good and bad. We were not so happy we rushed to get ready and there was no reason to but it ended up working out perfectly since we had extra time to roam around Fisherman's Wharf with no crowds whatsever.
This was their first cable car ride, or trolley as Brooklyn called it and they both thought it was lots of fun!
Fisherman's Wharf is my favorite!
I would've much rather of stayed down here but all the hotels were booked due to Fleet Week for this weekend so we stayed in Union Square. I definitely realized this trip that I am no way a city girl! Kayla enjoyed Union Square but Brooklyn agreed Fisherman's Wharf was much better.
Since we had so much time to spare before our tour to Alcatraz we stopped to see the sea lions on Pier 39. The girls loved this of course.
Then we headed to wait in line for Alcatraz.
The Golden Gate Bridge
Alcatraz
This was my third visit to Alcatraz and I definitely noticed more of the beauty of the island this visit.
I loved the run down look of everything
The girls both said it was just okay which is fine. One day they'll appreciate it more hopefully and I was just proud of them for not complaining once about being bored or acting bored. They both were so good and patient I would've never known that they weren't enjoying the tour.
After we were done we roamed around the island and found the perfect spot to take in the views for Fleet Week! The girls could really care less about the air show going on but we both really enjoyed watching it and we had the best views with no crowds. I loved enjoying the air show with this guy!
We watched for a couple of hours
but the girls were getting hungry and tired. Chris and I were waiting in anticipation for what was next while the girls were about to lose it. At one point I looked over and saw Brooklyn twirling in the rocks and realized we were going to lose our perfect day attitudes if we didn't get back to eat. It was well past lunch anyway and I was getting hungry as well.
We were trying to hold out as long as possible because their was one certain plane Chris really wanted to see but I told him there was no way we could keep the girls waiting any longer so we boarded a boat and to our luck that specific plane just so happened to come out as we were on it. We had the perfect viewing spot and it flew right over us several times. It was extremely loud and fast and we all thought it was so cool!
Back at Fisherman's Wharf we decided to eat at Pier 39. We chose Fog Harbor and had to wait a little bit and hoped we would get a window seat because the Blue Angels were flying next. We got the perfect seat next to the windows and were happy to luck out once again with our views. The pier outside looked much too crowded to be watching from!
Our food was delicious and Kayla was ecstatic to be having "the best clam chowder" out of a bread bowl.
After a great meal and watching the Blue Angels we were ready to leave but everyone else was leaving as well since the air show was over. Right outside on Pier 39 there ended up being an 80's rock band that began to perform so we watched for awhile until the crowds went down.
We then walked over to Ghirardelli Square for some dessert
It was very crowded so we had to wait in line to order and then to find a table but it was worth it of course. Brooklyn chose a build your own milkshake while Kayla chose a hot fudge brownie sundae.
We shopped around a bit before walking back to the cable cars to get a ride back to Union Square.
There was a long line so by the time we got on the cable car it was dark which made the ride back one of my favorite parts of the trip. In between all of the buildings here and there we would get a glimpse of the bright full moon and the bridge lit up over the water. It was so beautiful and a perfect ending to a long day!

What fun! I was there in San Francisco last week for the air show, Fleet Week, from New York to visit my son. He lives in Walnut Creek, and we always visit the Fisherman's Wharf when I go out to see him. The weather there: superb. My two youngest girls are 11 and 13 and I hope to bring them out there one of these times to do those fun things!
